Istanbul Flower Market

The Istanbul Flower Market (Çiçek Pazarı) is a small, vivid wholesale and retail flower market on the Eminönü waterfront between the Galata Bridge and the Yeni Cami. The market has been selling flowers at this location since the Ottoman period — the building is a 19th-century structure that was once a customs depot, repurposed for flower trading.

Most of the action happens at dawn — wholesalers unload the night's cut flowers (roses from Antalya, carnations from Yalova, tulips from the Lale Festival season) and restock the smaller retailers. By 09:00 the market is in full retail flow; by 14:00 it's winding down.

Beyond cut flowers, the market sells houseplants (especially the succulents and cacti that thrive on Turkish windowsills), bulbs, seeds, garden supplies, and bonsai. The colors and the smell on a spring morning are extraordinary. The handful of flower shops attached to the market building stay open later, into the early evening.

Free, outdoor, dawn-early afternoon. Combine with a visit to the Yeni Cami opposite, and a morning ferry ride or the Galata Bridge for fish sandwiches.
